What Needs to Be on a CLP Label
If you are new to printing CLP labels, you might not be clear on what information needs to be on them, or how that information needs to be formatted. If that sounds like you, read on.

All CLP warning labels need to include the following information:
• Product name (and UFI, or Unique Formula Identifier, if the item is being sold in the EU or Northern Ireland)
• Type of item
• Item weight/quantity (if not mentioned elsewhere on the packaging)
• What fragrances or hazardous chemicals it contains
• Any allergen ingredients
• The appropriate signal word (‘warning’ for less dangerous substances; ‘danger’ for more dangerous substances)
• Any relevant hazard pictograms and statements (for example, a candle would require pictograms that represent ‘health hazard’ and ‘hazardous to the environment’)
• Address and contact details of the company that made the product
All required text and pictograms should be in black, with white backgrounds and red borders. This ensures that the information is as clear and easy to read as possible. All text must be in the official language or languages of the countries where the product will be sold. For more help in understanding CLP label requirements, take a look at the official guidance on the
ECHA (European Chemicals Agency) website.
Order Safety Labels Best Suited for Your Home Fragrance and Room Spray Products
Our CLP labels are completely customisable, and the ideal customisations for your labels will depend on the nature of your products and your brand’s identity. This is particularly true when considering label materials.
If, for example, you’re an independent candle maker who focuses on sustainability and reducing plastic waste, you might want to consider ordering paper CLP labels. Our
paper materials are made from FSC-certified pulp to ensure responsible sourcing, and can be recycled with your paper or cardboard recycling. Stick paper labels to wax melt packaging or candle jars, and you can tell your customers your product packaging is as eco-friendly as the product itself.
However, if you make or supply products that require a more durable label, we would recommend using plastic CLP labels instead. Unlike paper, our
PP materials are waterproof and tearproof, so they can be kept in outdoor or wetter environments without becoming damaged. These labels will also self-extinguish if they catch fire; an ideal safety feature for personalised CLP stickers destined to go on candles and wax melts.

Best for
What to consider
Paper labels
Boxed products, outer packaging, dry indoor use, lower-impact packaging choices
Can mark or absorb oils/moisture over time. Not ideal where fragrance residue is likely.
PP labels (polypropylene)
Candles, wax melts, diffusers, sprays and any product that may be exposed to moisture, oils or frequent handling
Best all-round choice for durability and wipe-clean performance.
Matt lamination
Scuff protection + premium finish with reduced glare (useful if labels are small and information-dense)
Great for readability under bright lights and for a softer, luxury look.
Gloss lamination
Maximum wipe-clean performance and resistance against oils, splashes and frequent handling
Best for “handled a lot” products like sprays and retail-tested items.
Sheets
Hand application, lower volumes, lots of SKUs, frequent small batches
Easiest to store and organise. Ideal if you change CLP info regularly.
Rolls
Higher volume, fastest application, consistent placement
Most efficient for growing businesses and repeat batches.
Individual stickers
Events, kits, flexible packing workflows, quick application without sheets
Handy for small runs and when you want labels separated and ready to apply.
Permanent adhesive
Most CLP use-cases, shipping, long shelf-life products, any item handled regularly
Best for reducing the risk of labels lifting, peeling or falling off.
Removable adhesive
Short-term use, temporary compliance for samples, or when labels must be removed cleanly
Not recommended for most retail sales, as lifting in transit can cause compliance issues.
